Skagit Valley College Names Paul Cuevas Head Men’s Soccer Coach

Mount Vernon, WA — Skagit Valley College Athletics is proud to announce the hiring of Paul Cuevas as the new Head Men's Soccer Coach. A former Cardinal student-athlete, Cuevas returns to lead the program where his collegiate career began.

Cuevas was a member of the Cardinal Soccer program during the 2018–2019 seasons, bringing firsthand knowledge of the college, its culture, and the standard of excellence that defines Skagit Valley College Athletics. His experience as both a player and coach, combined with his passion for development and leadership, positions him well to guide the next generation of student-athletes.

"We are excited to welcome Paul back to Skagit Valley College," said Athletics Director Mitch Freeman. "His connection to the program, commitment to student-athlete success, and vision for the future make him a great fit to lead our men's soccer program."

Cuevas joins Skagit Valley College after serving on the coaching staff at IU Indianapolis, where he was hired in August 2025. Prior to that, he spent several years at Montana State University Billings, where he served as a student-athlete, assistant coach, and was elevated to interim head coach in 2024. During his time as head coach, he led the Yellowjackets to a 6-6-6 overall record, including a 5-4-3 mark in Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.

Before stepping into a coaching role, Cuevas was a standout student-athlete, playing five seasons of collegiate soccer. After beginning his career at Skagit Valley College, he went on to Montana State Billings, where he was a three-year letterwinner in the midfield. He appeared in 33 matches with 25 starts, recording four goals and two assists. He earned his degree in history with a minor in physical education.
A native of Yakima, Washington, Cuevas has also been involved in the youth soccer community, including coaching with Billings United, where he guided his 2005 boys team to a second-place finish at the USYS National Presidents Cup.

In his new role, Cuevas will focus on building a competitive program while emphasizing academic success, character development, and community engagement. His return marks a full-circle moment and a renewed commitment to the continued growth and success of Cardinal Men's Soccer.
