Head Softball Coach – Skagit Valley College

Skagit Valley College is proud to welcome Lance Lopez as the new Head Softball Coach. With over two decades of coaching experience across multiple sports and levels, Coach Lopez brings a deep passion for player development, leadership, and team culture.
Lance has been a lead instructor at D-BAT Skagit Valley, providing training in all aspects of softball and baseball, including pitching, hitting, and fielding. His coaching career spans from youth and travel teams to high school and collegiate levels.
He previously served as the Head JV and Assistant Varsity Softball Coach at Mount Vernon High School from 2020 to 2024, guiding the team to district tournament appearances in 2022 and 2023. From 2017 to 2019, Lance was an Assistant Softball Coach at Skagit Valley College, helping lead the Cardinals to an NWAC Tournament appearance in 2019.
Lance also brings a wealth of coaching experience from the basketball world. Most recently, he served as the Head Boys Basketball Coach at La Conner High School, and has coached both boys and girls basketball at the middle school and high school levels throughout Skagit County.
His extensive softball résumé includes roles with several top-level travel programs:
  • Head Coach, Triple Threat 12U–16U
  • Assistant Coach, 16U/18U Rising Stars Fastpitch
  • Assistant Coach, 18U Khoas Fastpitch

A former student scorekeeper for Skagit Valley College softball, Lance's connection to the program runs deep. His coaching philosophy centers around building strong relationships, fostering player confidence, and preparing student-athletes for success on and off the field.
