Isakson Hits Game Winner

Though Cade Isakson led the Cardinals in scoring (18 points) on the road vs Edmonds College Saturday afternoon, it was his last three points that were most memorable.

With just 2.2 seconds left in regulation, the score tied at 78 apiece, Isakson hit his second game winner of the year for the Cardinals. This one a 30 foot shot from in front of the Cardinal bench that dropped through the net as time expired. The bucket gave Skagit Valley a much needed 81-78 road win, keeping them in the playoff picture, as the Cardinals approach the half-way point in North Region play this Wednesday night.

"It is always better to be on the winning side of those shots," said Skagit Valley Head Coach Brock Veltri. "We needed a game like this to give us some momentum heading into the second half of league play," Veltri added.

Rounding out the scoring for the Cardinals was Caleb Sheldon with 17, Carmonte Jones with 13, and Mubarak Michael chipping in 9 points.

The Cardinals were even in most statistical categories except for offensive rebounds, where they had a commanding 14-6 advantage.  "We felt that creating second chance opportunities could be the difference in the game," said Coach Veltri. "We challenged our guys to create those opportunities for us and they ended up giving us an incredible effort tonight."

Skagit Valley will return home to the DuVall Pavilion on Wednesday, January 30, as they host Olympic College.
