The Skagit Valley College (SVC) Men's Soccer team capped off the 2024 season with an impressive 9 wins and a 3rd place finish in the North Region, securing their first-ever post-season bid under third-year head coach Richard Henderson. The Cardinals' journey in the NWAC Soccer Championships ended in a heartbreaking 2-1 penalty shootout loss to Walla Walla Community College after an intense overtime battle in the first round.Despite the tough conclusion, the team celebrated several milestones and individual accomplishments.
Under Coach Henderson's leadership, the Cardinals reached the championship tournament for the first time since 2014, finishing 15th in the United Soccer Coaches Association National Poll. The program continues to attract talented players from across the region, country, and internationally. Coach Henderson's dedication to fostering a culture of excellence and commitment to the holistic development of his student-athletes have been integral to the team's success.
"This was an excellent team to coach. We are very young, and to get to post-season play and register another winning season—our third in a row—shows the progress we've made. The daily interactions and growth of the group were evident from day one to the end of the season. We have players from all over the world, and seeing them support and learn from each other was inspiring. The future looks extremely bright," said Coach Henderson.
