Skagit Valley College Volleyball North Division Champions, Coach Amaral Named Coach of the Year, and Hayden Claeys Earns MVP

The Skagit Valley College Volleyball team has earned well-deserved recognition for an outstanding 2024 season. Head Coach Joe Amaral was named Coach of the Year after guiding the Cardinals to the North Region Division Championship with a perfect 12-0 conference record and a 28-3 overall finish.

In his 5th season at the helm, Coach Amaral has solidified the SVC Volleyball program as one of the most competitive teams in the NWAC. Under his leadership, the Cardinals have consistently reached the NWAC Championship Tournament every year, including during a season when no formal championship event was held.

Recent achievements of the program include:

  • 2021: 2nd Place in the NWAC
  • 2022: Top 8 Finish in the NWAC
  • 2023: Top 8 Finish in the NWAC
  • 2024: North Region Division Champions
"The progress of this program over the past five years is a testament to the hard work and commitment of Joe and his players. Each season brings its own challenges, and this year's team has shown exceptional resilience and teamwork, a reflection of Joe's outstanding leadership and ability to guide this program to success."
– Mitch Freeman, Director of Athletics

Hayden Claeys, the team's exceptional setter, was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) for her instrumental role in the Cardinals' success. Claeys' leadership, skill, and consistency on the court played a key part in the team's championship run.
Additionally, several Cardinals earned All-Conference Honors for their standout performances throughout the season:
These accolades reflect the individual excellence and collective effort of the Cardinals as they continue to dominate in the NWAC.

The Cardinals are set to host the first round of the NWAC Volleyball Championships at SVC this weekend. Their opening match is scheduled for November 16th at 1:00 PM against South Puget Sound. To advance to the Round of 8 at Pierce College (November 22-24), the Cardinals must win two matches in this round.

Congratulations to Coach Amaral and the entire Cardinals team on an extraordinary season. Best of luck as you aim for NWAC Championship glory!
Go Cardinals!
