Box Score MOUNT VERNON, WA – The Cardinals were at their best down the stretch Wednesday night as they hung on for an 87-83 road win at Olympic College to start off league play.
Sophomore 
Ben Ayre hit back-to-back three pointers to give the Cardinals a 5-point lead with just under four minutes to play. The Cardinals did a great job of executing over the final three minutes to keep the home team from retaking the lead.
"The game got closer than we would have liked as we had built a 13 point lead with just under 9 minutes to go in the game" said Coach Veltri. "Our guys showed some grit down the stretch though as we did not panic when Olympic went on their run, this was a good win for our whole team but especially our sophomores who really played well down the stretch" Veltri added.
 
The Cardinals again were able to keep their hot streak from the outside going as they shot a scorching 81% from three point range (13-16). 
Cody Starr was a perfect 3 for 3 from long range and 
Josh Hammons and 
Ben Ayre were both 3 for 4.

Brock Veltri credits his team's ability to find the hot hand for tonight's finish. "getting road wins in league play is very difficult no matter what league you are in, our guys shot it extremely well from three tonight and kept the ball moving to open shooters, it was the difference tonight in getting out of here with a great win "
 
The Cardinals had 5 players in double figures. They were led by 
Ben Ayre with 26, Cody Star with 15, 
Tyler Kidd with 13, 
Josh Hammons with 11 and 
Cameron Howell with 10.
The Cardinals (8-4, 1-0) will travel to Bellevue College (11-5, 1-0) on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 6:00pm.
