As March Madness is getting underway, the NWAC North region has announced the All-Region and All-Defensive teams for the 2016-17 season. A pair of Cardinal sophomores were honored to receive all conference accolades.
Ben Ayre, a 6'1 sophomore guard, made the North Region 2nd Team for the second year in a row. Ayre led the Cardinals in both points and assists this past season with 16 ppg and 3.4 apg. He was also the team's leading shooter, going 50% from the floor, 45% from the three, and 90% from the free-throw line; he was the only player in the NWAC to accomplish this feat and led the Cardinals in all three categories. Ayre helped the Cardinals lead the NWAC North in both scoring offense with 87 ppg and points per possession with 1.27 ppp. Ayre, who also had a 2-1 assist-to-turnover ratio, helped the Cardinals lead the NWAC with fewest turnovers allowed for the second year in a row. SVC had 50 fewer turnovers then the next closest team.
Tyler Kidd, a 5'11" sophomore guard, made the All-Defensive team for the North Region. Kidd guarded the opposing team's best guard night in and night out. Kidd led the Cardinals' defensive efforts that helped SVC go 5-2 on the road in North Region play, defeating the first, second, and third ranked teams on their home floor. Kidd was effective on the offensive end as well; he averaged 14 ppg, which ranked him 2
nd on the team. He shot 49% from the floor on the season and had a 2-1 assist-to-turnover ratio.
